For years, intercommunal B2C ecommerce activities have had all the benefits of one free, European market. However, things will potentially change after March 2019 when Britain leaves the EU. How will this affect the Dutchman who orders a book at a London bookstore and has it sent to his home in The Hague? Right now, there is no need to declare the book in the UK or the Netherlands. But that may change after March 2019. Depending on the kind of Brexit the UK and the EU will agree upon, changes may be significant. Possibly, all ecommerce items entering and leaving the UK may be subject to declarations, based on value. It is still unclear which tariffs will be applied.
