Descartes Customer and Reseller Wins the 2011 SMART Award for Excellence in Supply Chain Innovation in New South Wales
Sydney Australia. Congratulations to our valued customer – Westfield, and Reseller – Bestrane for the prestigious award that recognized the deployment of the Descartes Dock Appointments solution to enable highly secure control of all vehicle movements in the newly opened premier centre in Sydney Australia. This award is specific to organizations operating in the state of New South Wales who demonstrate excellence in supply chain innovation 'at work,' through the application of best practice and/or technology, to identify solutions and improve supply chain productivity and environmental sustainability.
Westfield replaced an inefficient paper-based dock delivery management system with a streamlined software-as-a-service (SaaS) web-based solution from Bestrane Group – the Descartes Dock Appointments solution. The new system enables contractors, carriers, suppliers and retailers to manage delivery bookings in real time with appointments made online and checked on-site using handheld mobile wireless devices. This has improved delivery performance, tracking and security while streamlining congestion and complex communication channels.
About 510 carriers and 240 retailers use the new system for up to 200 delivery bookings each day, with over 90 per cent of appointments handled automatically via the web requiring no interaction from dock management. As a result, average vehicle dwell times at Westfield Sydney fell from 44 minutes to about 25 minutes – a 43 per cent improvement.
