Advanced Logistics Networking and Ocean ACE M1 Certified Solutions Designed to Address the Need for Greater Collaboration and Comply With Emerging Regulations

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla., Nov. 10, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Descartes Systems Group (Nasdaq:DSGX) (TSX:DSG), the global leader in logistics technology, unveiled its two latest innovations available on its Descartes' Logistics Technology Platform at its Evolution 2011 Global User and Partner Conference in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Descartes launched both its Descartes Collaboration Gateway, which supports secure access for ad hoc parties that casually connect to trading parties as part of the supply chain processes, and Descartes Ocean ACE Filing, an M1 Certified solution for ocean shipments arriving in the United States.

Descartes Collaboration Gateway allows an entity to expand its connections to its trading partners beyond established, defined trading relationships to include those temporary, ad hoc industry partners that come together throughout the logistics execution processes. It extends the capabilities of Descartes' Global Logistics Network, by using flexible, agile tools and access within the context of standardized messaging. Introduced as part of Descartes' e-Pouch application, Descartes' Collaboration Gateway supports and extends the benefits of the International Air Transportation Association's (IATA) e-Freight initiative. As part of Descartes' network framework, the Descartes Collaboration Gateway is also available as a service to applications operating on the Logistics Technology Platform.

Components of the Descartes Collaboration Gateway include:

  • Conductor:  Directing multi-party processes and workflow;
  • Passport:  Registering users with pre-approved trading partner relationships;
  • Portfolio: Online repository of all documents, messages and images related to shipment or process; and
  • Permit:  Breakthrough technology to spontaneously connect and collaborate

Descartes' Ocean ACE Filing is designated by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as an M1 Certified and Compliant Service for filing ocean manifest information to CBP's Automated Commercial Environment (ACE). It is integrated with Descartes' Global Logistics Network for enhanced connectivity options, and leverages multi-party workflow processes to route documents on-demand to trading partners requiring manifest data. Descartes' Ocean ACE Filing service is available with single sign-on access to Descartes applications such as Import Control System (ICS), Advance Commercial Information (ACI), Importer Security Filing (ISF) and value-added services such as Denied Party Screening.

Descartes' Ocean ACE Filing service's features include:

  • Entry of Bill of Lading data on one screen;
  • Visibility at the Bill of Lading level;
  • Expanded search and reporting options; and
  • Rules-based, targeted e-Alert email messaging to advise customers of any release issues.

"Descartes is a leader in helping global companies comply with cross-border regulations and extend their command of operations to the ad hoc parties that are important to international logistics operations," said Cindy Yamamoto, Senior Vice President Product Strategy at Descartes. "Our Logistics Technology Platform enables us to make these advances and offer our customers a logical path to meeting evolving government mandates and improving their collaboration with their partners."
