Automate Your Harmonized System Classification Updates

The World Customs Organization’s upcoming changes to the Harmonized System (HS) have now been accepted by all parties at the Harmonized System Convention. These amendments, compiled over the previous five years, are intended to meet advancements in technology as well as other key factors and will enter into effect on January 1, 2022.

What this means for importers is that your goods may no longer retain the same HS Code and using outdated classifications can cause errors and delays, inadvertently increase duty spend, and potentially lead to penalties for noncompliance.

Descartes CustomsInfo, in an effort to assist our users navigate these amendments ahead of time, is preparing an update to our CustomsInfo Manager solution. This added functionality will evaluate and apprise users on which of their classifications are subject to these amendments as well as assist them update and reclassify their goods. When ready, users will be able to update all of their classifications en masse – allowing for a seamless transition on January 1st.

This update is included as part of the solution’s Revalidator functionality. As long as you are a subscriber to CustomsInfo Manager, this update will be automatically added to your account once it becomes available.
