Your hardware passes a checkpoint. What about your technical data? Technical data can move through email, Teams, cloud workspaces and engineering exchanges. Does each controlled release pass through an authorization and approval process?
Regulators now look past end-users. They examine networks, brokers, and every point where technical data leaks.
Where the rules stand
US: Under ITAR and EAR, disclosing controlled technical data or technology to a foreign person can constitute a release. Depending on the circumstances, authorization may be required before access is granted.
UK: Changes to technical scope, recipients or destinations may require a fresh check against the applicable UK controls and licence conditions.
EU: EU dual-use rules can apply to electronic transfers of controlled technology and to certain technical assistance. Teams need to establish which controls apply before a release.
The permission-proof gap
Your Technical Assistance Agreement (TAA), Manufacturing License Agreement (MLA), or Standard Individual Export Licence (SIEL) sits in a static PDF. Your engineers share data in real time. Nothing connects the two. When an auditor asks about a transfer from three years ago, rebuilding the record from old email threads puts your company at risk.
What you will learn
- Treat authorization as a first-class object. Treat authorization as a first-class object. Link each intangible transfer request to its parent license (TAA, MLA, or SIEL) to auto-populate scope and approved countries.
- Automate the four-eyes principle. Separate duties between Technical and Export Control Focal Points without slowing your operations.
- Standardize the five questions. Capture who, what, where, how, and why before release, instead of reconstructing answers during an audit or regulatory inquiry.
- Keep traceability when scope shifts. Maintain a full digital thread as projects and requirements change.
Who should attend
Trade compliance managers, export control officers, empowered officials, and engineering leads in aerospace and defense.
