New Functionality Addresses Retailers' and Distributors' Need to Improve Same-Day Delivery Productivity and Performance
MIAMI, Nov. 13, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Descartes Systems Group (Nasdaq:DSGX) (TSX:DSG), the global leader in uniting logistics-intensive businesses in commerce, unveiled new optimization technology that helps retailers and distributors make deliveries the same day an order is taken. Descartes made the announcement at its Global User & Partner Conference, Evolution 2013, in Miami, Florida.
Same-day delivery, which is fraught with a number of challenges, has become a critical capability for retailers and distribution companies. Same-day delivery can be prohibitively expensive for a retailer or distributor to offer to its customers and delivery failure can have a severe impact on customer satisfaction. Unfortunately, traditional delivery optimization technologies have struggled to effectively address these same-day delivery challenges. Those traditional systems were specifically designed with a delivery planning cycle structured before the day of delivery while Descartes' new optimization technology is specifically designed to address same-day delivery.
Descartes' innovative new continuous optimization technology enables dispatchers to receive, automatically assign and execute orders throughout the day, placing pick-up or delivery orders on the routes best suited to meet the customer appointment requirements and operational cost constraints. Using real-time GPS-based fleet statuses Descartes' same-day delivery optimization technology can more accurately predict new delivery times and drive greater delivery efficiencies.
Descartes' new same-day optimization technology is part of Descartes' Route Planner solution, which provides advanced route planning and execution in a single architecture. Descartes web-based architecture and GPS-enabled mobile integration are designed with same-day delivery in mind. Descartes Route Planner comprehensively helps retailers and distributors schedule delivery appointments, plan the delivery routes, notify the customer of delivery status and, ultimately, execute the delivery efficiently and consistent with customer expectations.
"We've re-invented our solutions to specifically address same-day delivery by combining our innovative continual optimization technology with real-time GPS data and customer notification technologies," said Ken Wood, EVP Product Management at Descartes. "We believe that retailers and distributors are facing increased demand for same-day delivery of orders. Our technologies let retailers and distributors manage both customer delivery expectations and operational costs to make same-day delivery a reality."
