WATERLOO, ONTARIO, March 7, 2006 --The Descartes Systems Group Inc. (Nasdaq: DSGX)(TSX: DSG), a leading provider of on-demand, software-as-a-service (SaaS) delivery management solutions and services for transportation, logistics, manufacturing, retail, distribution and service provider enterprises, today announced that SEKO Worldwide, Inc., a leading international air and ocean freight forwarding, customs brokerage and logistics services provider, has signed up to use Descartes' Local Haulage Service™. The Local Haulage Service will initially help SEKO Worldwide manage its carrier network across North America and enhance its global supply chain services.
"This advanced freight management service represents a significant opportunity for SEKO Worldwide in terms of transportation spend and internal resource allocation," said Tom Madzy, Chief Information Officer of SEKO Worldwide. "Descartes' Local Haulage Service gives our regional and corporate offices the ability to consolidate shipments for increased transportation savings; select the most appropriate carriers; communicate electronically with the selected carriers; and then audit carrier invoices. We see significant ways to utilize these services to support our global services and the global supply chains of our customers."
Descartes' Local Haulage Service leverages the power of Descartes' Global Logistics Network™ (GLN), one of the world's largest logistics-focused networks. Through the GLN, SEKO Worldwide can gain access to hundreds of its carrier partners who are already on the network, and have the ability to rapidly connect others in its carrier community. SEKO Worldwide plans to use the Local Haulage Service to:
- Help reduce shipping costs by enabling SEKO Worldwide to select the lowest cost shipping provider, consolidate separate shipments into loads and increase the use of back hauls;
- Streamline procurement by electronically tendering freight using the GLN and its network of North American carriers;
- Track delivery status through automated and webform-based collection of electronic pick-up and delivery messages; and
- Streamline freight bill auditing by automating the processing of carrier bills across the organization.
"We are pleased to add SEKO Worldwide to the growing list of global freight-forwarders using the Global Logistics Network to communicate with transportation providers in various modes of transportation," said Edward Ryan, general manager of Descartes' Global Logistics Network. "The Local Haulage Service helps SEKO Worldwide provide a better service to their customers and helps save money at the same time. We are proud to be a part of this initiative with SEKO Worldwide."
Descartes will be demonstrating its Local Haulage Service at the AirCargo 2006 Conference, March 12-14th at the Sheraton Bal Harbour in Bal Harbour, Florida. AirCargo 2006, the premier conference and exhibition of the expedited and express delivery and logistics industry, is co-sponsored by the Express Delivery and Logistics Association, the Air & Expedited Motors Carriers Association and the Airforwarders Association. "The AirCargo 2006 Conference is a great venue for Descartes to present its Local Haulage Service as it brings together all of the parties that can benefit from the solution including freight forwarders and motor carriers," commented Ryan.
