Waterloo, Ontario - Tuesday, April 4, 2000, 7:30 AM EDT-- The Descartes Systems Group Inc. (NASDAQ:DSGX), (TSE:DSG), a leading provider of B2B Internet logistics solutions, today announced that TNT North America has rapidly deployed online logistics services to Hewlett-Packard Company (HP) with Descartes' B2B e-logistics solution. The Descartes system enables TNT to monitor and control the movement of goods throughout HP's logistics network.
"Descartes' open B2B connectivity and visibility system made it easy for us to provide real-time information about logistics activities to the customer," said Ron Sloan, VP, IS&T at TNT North America. "The flexibility of the system enabled us to rapidly deploy a logistics information network within 45 days, extending the real-time supply chain visibility services of TNT to HP."
TNT is rapidly deploying Descartes' e-Frame(tm) B2B connectivity and visibility solution to create an all-North American online logistics network for HP, spanning 48 states and Canada and extending overseas to Europe.
"Logistics providers must drive their physical logistics network with state-of-the-art technology to reach new levels of performance and customer service," said Jim Davidson, President & CEO at TNT North America. "Descartes is providing us with the high-performance online logistics network to drive our physical services, enabling us to compete at a new level of logistics service."
"TNT North America is raising the bar by offering new value-added logistics services to HP," said Art Mesher, executive vice president at Descartes. "The TNT-HP relationship represents a new direction for logistics providers. Logistics services used to be about moving physical goods, such as from the warehouse onto trucks through to the final destination. That business model has changed and evolved. Today, customers expect logistics providers to be clean and elegant extensions of their own operations, providing value-added services such as real-time information and online logistics visibility systems, transportation optimization and inventory management capabilities."
