e-Globalisation Belgium
Electronic globalisation of customs declarations (e‑Globalisation) is the digital method for consolidating import flows without submitting a separate declaration for every individual transaction. The result: less friction at the border, faster logistics, and a stronger audit trail.
Faster clearance, stronger compliance
E‑globalisation transforms the Belgian customs landscape by making periodic declarations fully
digital, faster, and more tightly controlled.
With real‑time validation, integration with IDMS, and a harmonised data structure aligned with the European model, companies gain stronger control over their goods flows and compliance obligations. This eliminates time‑consuming waiting periods and manual processes, while ensuring you are fully prepared for an environment where accurate, reliable data is essential for smooth audits, effective risk management, and growth in international trade.
What does e-globalisation deliver for your business?
- Faster goods flow without waiting times
With e‑globalisation, goods can be received or released without waiting for a customs release message, as the process is only finalised at the end of the globalisation period. This significantly reduces operational delays. - Consistent data & stronger compliance
You work with the full declaration dataset in line with the EU Customs Data Model (EUCDM), reducing the risk of errors and improving the quality of data used during audits and controls. - Real-time validation by customs
All messages submitted within e‑globalisation are validated in real time by Belgian Customs, allowing issues to be detected earlier and improving overall compliance. - Future‑proof within the new customs framework
E‑Globalisation aligns with the ongoing modernisation of the Belgian customs landscape. Companies that adopt it now are better prepared for upcoming digital requirements and the evolving EU customs ecosystem.

e-Globalisation FAQ
e-Globalisatie is not mandatory, it is a procedure that is available to AEO-certified companies that regularly import goods from outside the EU.
However, e‑Globalisation is mandatory for all companies that use globalisation under Entry in Declarant’s Records (EiDR). The mandatory transition took place on 1 February 2022.
e‑Globalisation is the digital process through which companies submit their periodic customs declarations electronically via an initial message, subsequent sub‑messages, and a single final closing message. The full dataset is validated in real time by Belgian Customs and contains the same level of detail as a standard customs declaration.
Belgium uses:
- IDMS (Import Declaration Management System) for import.
- AES (Automated Export System) for export.
e‑Globalisation is the digital follow‑up step to EiDR: goods may be received or released without an immediate declaration, but the full dataset must be submitted electronically during the globalisation period.
e‑Globalisation requires the full dataset, including HS codes, origin, document codes, product master data, and shipment details. This dataset is identical to a complete standard customs declaration.
