TikTok Shop Gains US Ecommerce Share, Expanding Opportunities for Ecommerce Sellers

TikTok Shop accounted for about 2% of US online retail spending in July, up from around 1.2% a year earlier, according to Consumer Edge data reported by Business Insider. Its share of online spending during the month was higher than individual retailers including Target, Costco, and The Home Depot.

The growth comes as TikTok invests in ecommerce capabilities. The company has built out shipping and logistics services, added sellers and brands, and trained creators to promote products for commission. It is also introducing membership benefits and managed services for sellers.

For ecommerce sellers, TikTok Shop’s growth highlights how social commerce is becoming a more significant sales channel. The platform remains well behind Amazon and Walmart in US online spending, but Consumer Edge data indicates its share has grown steadily since launch.

Sellers should evaluate whether TikTok Shop fits their products and customers rather than treating expansion as a requirement. Businesses that add the channel should consider how they will keep product information, inventory, and orders synchronized with their existing sales channels.

For ecommerce sellers, this highlights the importance of building flexible, multichannel operations as social commerce continues to grow.
