Descartes XPS Ship™ now supports the FedEx® Extra Small Box, expanding packaging choices for ecommerce sellers shipping merchandise. The option is available for supported standard FedEx services and eligible FedEx One Rate® shipments.
FedEx introduced the box in February 2026. It measures 7-1/4 by 2-1/2 by 4-11/16 inches and supports shipments up to 50 pounds, subject to FedEx service and packaging requirements. For expedited US shipments, One Rate pricing is based on the package type, delivery service, and destination. FedEx-provided packaging is required.
For ecommerce sellers, the smaller format may reduce unused space and offer a lower flat-rate tier when products do not need a FedEx Small Box. Descartes estimates shippers could save at least $3 per package compared with that option, although results depend on the shipment, account, service, destination, and agreement.
Sellers using their own FedEx accounts can select the Extra Small Box in Descartes XPS Ship for applicable shipments. Teams using FedEx Base Rates should first update or import the rate cards. Before adopting it broadly, compare costs by SKU, service, destination, packing protection, and negotiated rates.
“We are thrilled that XPS Ship has released the FedEx One Rate Extra Small Box option on the platform. This additional option gives us a more competitive shipping rate, which in turn helps us keep costs low for our customers,” said Dylan Paulson, General Manager at eparts.shop.
